Two 8 storey blocks of flats that are situated in Wythenshawe, Manchester and belonging to the Willow Park Housing Trust, were being completely refurbished by Richardson Projects Ltd as main contractors.
Early in the works they discovered that the edges of the concrete floors, balconies and other exposed concrete surfaces were cracked and spalled in many areas, due to carbonation and water ingress leading to steel reinforcement corrosion. Richardson contacted their preferred specialist works contractors, Construction Techniques Ltd, who together with NCC, their specialist materials consultants, provided the ideal solution to the problem.
A complete Sika MonoTop concrete repair and protection system was used to protect the cleaned steel, replace the damaged concrete and then provide future protection with the waterproof, anti-carbonation coating Sikagard 675W.
