Construction Techniques were approached by a private self build client to look at the waterproofing design at a large domestic property in Blundellsands Merseyside. With a project value of £30,000, this project was carried out May 2022.
Built on an existing site the original building was demolished to make way for a new property with a basement complete with a swimming pool. The basement required a grade 3 environment so two forms of waterproofing was essential. Although the basement was being built in free draining sandy soils, the challenge was the close proximity to the sea and the water table fluctuating due to ingoing and out going tides.
High water table meant that a robust solution was required. Due to the shape of the site, the building had over 14 internal and external corners to allow the client to gain as much space as possible in the basement. Sika Watertight Concrete with Sikaswell A2010 waterstops was chosen for the RC walls and slabs. Sikaproof A-08 was chosen to waterproof below the slab with Sikaproof P-12 post applied to the RC walls.
